If you’re like most people you probably use an Excel worksheet in order to store some of your passwords. To add some security to that file we can encrypt it, using a simple built-in functionality.
Open your Excel file. Then go to File->Save as.
Then, on the top right label Tools, select General Options.
Click Advanced and then choose RC4, Microsoft RSA SChannel Cryptographic Provider (you can choose other provider, but RSA is quite secure), and then Ok.
Finally, type a password to open (be sure not to forget it, there’s no other way you can open the file) and save the file.
There you got it. A very secure measure.
As noted in many sites, this approach is not totally fool-proof against security professionals. On the other hand, you might find this useful enough if some common thieve happens to steal your computer and/or files.
