It’s not that this new version has any dazzling revolutionary features, but I had to tell you that Google Desktop is awesome: it brings quick and easy information management to the masses.
I haven’t tried other desktop search engines (such as Yahoo! Desktop or Windows Desktop Search) but I’m sure they share a common feature with Google’s application: they relieve you from creating complicated metadata structure (such as an extensive, complete and hard-to-maintain directory tree) and give you access to the information you want, no matter where it is.
To be honest you could dump all your documents in a single directory and use Google Desktop to open the right ones (not that you should do that…). How? Just search for the content you’re looking for. 🙂 It’s quite easy to use, but I might post a little tutorial in the next days.
You can download it at Google Desktop Download page and see the new features on Google Desktop Blog.
